Tom Helleberg has held a range of publishing positions over the past twenty-five years, primarily at academic and scholarly presses. Prior to his six years with Mountaineers Books, he has been a CFO, a production manager, an editorial assistant, a designer, and proprietor of a pre-press services company; this range of experience has resulted in a broad view of the business of publishing. He holds an MFA in Fiction Writing from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and an MBA in Corporate Finance and Strategy from the Stern School of Business at NYU.
Mountaineers Books is an independent nonprofit outdoors publisher based in Seattle, Washington. Founded in 1960 with the publication of Mountaineering: The Freedom of the Hills, Mountaineers Books today maintains over 700 titles in print and publishes 35 new books a year, including guidebooks, adventure narratives, biographies, art and photography, and natural history. Mountaineers has two imprints — Skipstone and Braided River — and serves as distributor for aligned organizations, including the American Alpine Club, the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, the Colorado Mountain Club, and Green Trails Maps.
