The Publishers Cooperative Code of Conduct
At The Publishers Cooperative (TPC), we are committed to fostering a positive and inclusive environment during all our events, whether in person or virtual. We expect all participants, including members, staff, vendors, sponsors, and guests, to adhere to the following code of conduct:
- Respectful Behavior: Treat all fellow participants with courtesy, professionalism, and respect, whether in person or in virtual settings. Engage in discussions and interactions in a manner that promotes a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
- Venue Rules and Property: Regardless of the event format, respect and adhere to the rules and property guidelines of the location where TPC events are being held or the virtual platform being used.
- Professional Communication: When discussing matters related to The Publishers Cooperative, express differences of opinion professionally and constructively. Acknowledge and consider diverse viewpoints while maintaining a respectful tone, whether through virtual or in-person communication.
- Ethical Cooperation: Though members combine buying power and share best practices to benefit all presses while maintaining fair competition, they must not misuse cooperative information or resources against others, such as reverse engineering sales data or poaching employees. This does not restrict Members’ publishing categories, outreach, creative partnerships, or other good-faith strategies.
As a member of TPC, you agree to be mindful of the following behaviors during any event:
- Harassment and Discrimination: Do not threaten, harass, abuse, or discriminate against others verbally, physically, or in writing, whether during in-person or virtual events. Treat all participants with kindness and respect, regardless of their background.
- Unruly or Disruptive Conduct: Avoid engaging in disruptive, lewd, or unethical behavior during TPC events or discussions, whether in person or virtually. Maintain a professional atmosphere that promotes productive interactions.
- Safety and Well-being: Refrain from actions that could endanger the health or safety of others in connection with TPC events or matters, regardless of the event format. Prioritize the well-being of all participants.
- Mutual Respect: Do not interfere with the exercise of the responsibilities of TPC’s board members, volunteer leaders and appointed staff, whether in person or virtually. Support their roles in facilitating respectful and inclusive events.
- Guest Responsibility: If you invite guests to TPC events, ensure that they adhere to these guidelines and uphold the organization’s values and standards, regardless of the event format.
By participating in The Publishers Cooperative events, whether in person or virtually, you agree to abide by this code of conduct, fostering a welcoming, respectful, and professional environment for all participants. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in disciplinary action, including a refusal of admission to or ejection from TPC events, and denial, suspension, or termination of membership, at the sole discretion of TPC. If you see or experience an issue please contact TPC Executive Director or a board member.
This Code of Conduct is subject to change and may be amended, supplemented, or superseded without notice. The Publishers Cooperative members are, at all times, responsible for compliance with the Code of Conduct in its then-current form, whether participating in person or virtually.
